How to get here
The nearest international airport is in Guayaquil. KLM (from Amsterdam) and Iberia (from Madrid) offer regular flights to Guayaquil from Europe. Flights usually arrive in the late afternoon; since the drive to Crucita takes another four hours, a partner company offers a door-to-door transfer service from the airport to the hostel. The cost is approximately 100 USD per minivan (up to four people). Just provide us with your flight number and arrival time, and we will arrange the transfer so the driver is waiting for you in the arrivals hall. Despite the long distance, if you fly from Europe, you can reach us the same day and enjoy a cold beer at Hostal Cruzita that very evening!
If you would prefer to rest at a hotel in Guayaquil after your flight, let us know, and we can arrange a transfer from your hotel for the following day.
You can also book with a connection flight to the nearby domestic airport in Manta. From there a taxi will bring you to the hostel in 40 minutes and the cost is around 20 USD.
If you are traveling around South America or prefer local public transport, you should head to the bus terminal in Guayaquil and look for the ticket counters for Coactur, Reina del Camino, or Ruta Portoviejense (usually near counter number 25). Buy a ticket to Portoviejo (8 USD); after the four-hour journey, transfer to a bus bound for Crucita. After another 40 minutes and a fare of 1.70 USD, we’ll see you at the hostel!
Although Ecuador has recently gained a reputation for being unsafe (due to drug cartels, gang wars, etc.), traveling through the country is relatively safe. As long as you avoid dark streets or sketchy neighborhoods, you have nothing to worry about. Tourists are usually given priority, and tourist towns like Crucita are avoided by gangs and thieves. You have nothing to worry about!
