Paragliding paradise
Crucita has been Ecuador's premier spot for ridge soaring for decades. A steady sea breeze rises up the cliffs running along the beach, creating reliable lift that allows for hours of soaring in smooth, safe, and predictable laminar air.
It is a welcoming spot for pilots of all levels. Beginners and non-flying companions can enjoy tandem flights with experienced local pilots or practice takeoffs, landings, and ground handling. Experienced pilots can explore 6 km of cliffs, fly over the beach or under the clouds, and refine or learn new maneuvers. For the more adventurous, there are opportunities for speed soaring, parakiting, and flying over the local houses and apartment buildings. The two launch sites offer beautiful views of Crucita and the ocean, the company of fellow pilots, and amenities like restaurants and hammocks where families can relax while you fly. There is plenty of space for top-landing, and at low tide, you can land on the beach right in front of the hotel. Nothing beats a dip in the warm ocean or a jump in the pool immediately after landing.
Have you ever been on a paragliding holiday only to have the weather fail, leaving you parawaiting or sitting in a bar? That simply won't happen in Crucita. There is always someone in the air here!
You can reach the take-off from the hostel in 15 minutes by taking a leisurely walk, or in 4 minutes by local tuk-tuk for 1 USD.
If you fly mini-wings, bring them along; anything larger than 15–16 m² will definitely come in handy. However, if you are looking for long-distance cross-country flying, you should choose a different destination. Crucita isn't suited for cross-country flying—and the same applies to Ecuador in general—so you likely won't be racking up the kilometers. However, if there is sufficient interest and a suitable group of pilots, we can offer flying trips to other coastal cliffs.
